It was an early day for the Panthers, who headed down the highway to play a rare morning game at an arena filled with local school kids. The Cougars got the only goal of the first and added another on the power play early in the second to jump ahead 2-0. Zennon Edwards then got his 8th of the season on a Pickering power play, and Joey Zhang tied it up a couple of minutes later on a great passing play from Joseph Cadorin and Quinn Binnie.
That was it until late in the third, and it looked like the Cats were headed to overtime again until Owen Dunning got the winner on a partial breakaway with a minute and a half remaining. Pickering weathered the storm against the extra attacker, as Joseph Crngarov put it into the empty net with 20 seconds left.
Ian Michelone made 32 saves to give the Panthers an important two points that pulled them within one point in the standings with the Cougars.
Panthers next game is at home this Friday versus the red-hot 13-3-0-0 Haliburton County Huskies who are currently on an 11 game winning streak. Tickets are available one hour prior to game time at the Chestnut Hill Developments Complex in Pickering.
