Special teams were the story in this back-and-forth thriller that featured six power-play goals and one shorthanded tally. Vasily Serov got the Panthers rolling with the first two goals of the game — the second coming on the man advantage. Former Panther Zach Mascard replied for Wellington with a power-play marker late in the first to make it 2-1 at the intermission.

The parade to the penalty box continued in the second period, producing three more power-play goals. Peter Smith scored his second of the season for Pickering, while Wellington struck twice to tie the game 3-3 heading into the third.

Wellington took its first lead early in the third on a shorthanded goal, but Charlie Key answered to tie it, and Josh Brady notched his sixth of the season to give Pickering a 5-4 advantage. The Dukes forced overtime with another power-play goal in the final two minutes of regulation.

In double overtime, Key buried his second of the night just 37 seconds in, finishing off a perfect two-on-one feed from Evan Elliott for the 6-5 win. Anthony Sciere made 34 saves for his sixth victory of the season, as the Panthers moved into a tie for third place in the Eastern Conference with Newmarket.
