SUNDAY OCT 1 MARKHAM 7 PICKERING 4
This was another game where the score was deceiving – the Panthers played hard in this one and were level at 4-4 until the middle of the third. A turnover (blocked shot at the Royal blueline) resulted in a breakaway and the winning goal for Markham. They added another quick one about a minute later, and then the final goal into an empty net. Pickering gave up at least three Markham goals on turnovers… something that a young team will hopefully learn from as the season progresses.
Nick Athanasakos notched his 5th and 6th (one of them short-handed), while Kieran Litterick (6th) and Joey Crngarov (2nd) added the others for Pickering. Aidan Feddema played well in the net making 41 saves including several outstanding stops early in the third period.
