Panthers Edge Tigers 3-2, Michelone Denies Penalty Shot

The Pickering Panthers edged out the Aurora Tigers with a final score of 3-2, pulling off a strong third-period comeback. Goaltender Ian Michelone was a standout, stopping 29 of 31 shots, including a crucial penalty shot that helped keep the Panthers in the game.

After a scoreless first period, Pickering struck quickly in the second. Joseph Cadorin opened the scoring just 31 seconds into the frame, notching his fourth goal of the season while shorthanded, assisted by Key. Aurora answered back late in the period, with Piao scoring on a power play at 18:49, evening the score at 1-1 heading into the third.

The Panthers regained the lead early in the final period, with Quinn Binnie capitalizing just 57 seconds in, assisted by Crngarov and Chen. The Tigers fought back, tying it up at 2-2 with Johnson’s goal at 9:53. But it was Darren Wilson who delivered the game-winner for Pickering at 12:51, with assists from Dunning and Zhang, sealing the Panthers’ victory.

Michelone’s penalty shot save proved pivotal, preserving Pickering’s momentum as they held strong to secure the win. Aurora’s goaltender, Humphries, also had a solid night with 32 saves on 35 shots.
