This one was closer than anticipated, with the North York Rangers matching the Panthers goal for goal until Owen Dunning (12) got the winner late in the second as he cut across the crease and flipped a forehand past the sprawling goaltender. Zennon Edwards (10), Kailin Chen (5), and Joseph Crngarov (6) got the other Pickering markers. Each time the Panthers got the lead, the Rangers responded until the Dunning goal. Pickering shut down the Rangers in the third to preserve the victory.
The Panthers’ lineup was bolstered by the return of last year’s leading goal scorer, Kieran Litterick, from the NAHL. Dunning and Chen each had three-point nights, and Ian Michalone had another great game in net, making 36 saves. The win moved Pickering into 8th place, just two points behind Lindsay, who they meet next weekend.
Pickering travels to Toronto Saturday night to take on the Patriots.
