PICKERING, ON: Sunday, Sept. 20
Pickering carried its momentum into Sunday night’s home game against the Collingwood Blues, one of the top teams in the league and owners of a 5-0 record entering the game.
The Panthers did well to keep the Blues off the board despite playing eight minutes of the first period shorthanded. The combination of a strong penalty kill and Daniel Giusti in net kept the game scoreless through two periods.
Newcomer Emanuel Ganz put the Panthers ahead seven minutes into the third, with assists from Ethan Toms and Owen Orr, and it looked like Pickering might register its first win of the season with a big upset of the Blues.
However, a couple of miscues in their own end led to two quick Collingwood goals just 1:32 apart, and the Blues pulled out a close 2-1 win over the Panthers.
Giusti was excellent in his first start of the season, making 41 saves.
Pickering’s next home game is Friday night, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. against the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.
