Panthers Prospect Camp Wraps Up as Six Teams Compete for Open Roster Spots

PICKERING, ON —  Each year, Junior A teams are tasked with filling roster spots left open by graduating overagers and natural player turnover. The Pickering Panthers’ 2025 Prospect Camp wrapped up this weekend at Chestnut Hill Developments Complex, marking a successful start to the team’s off-season evaluation process.

Over the course of three high-intensity days, six teams made up of attending prospects competed in on-ice sessions and scrimmages. The talent pool was deep and diverse, with players coming from across the Durham Region, Northern Ontario, and even the United States.

The camp kicked off on Friday with a dedicated Goalie Evaluation Day, where a strong group of goaltenders competed for limited opportunities. The session was led by St. Louis Blues Goalie Coach Dan Stewart, who brought NHL-level instruction and intensity to the crease.

“We had a great Goalie Evaluation Day at our Prospect Camp,” said Panthers General Manager Sean Meyers. “We look forward to continuing to evaluate the goalies moving on and wish all the best to those not advancing.”

Full camp action took place Saturday and Sunday, with skaters participating in games and drills under the watchful eyes of the Panthers’ coaching and hockey operations staff. Evaluation remains ongoing as coaches determine next steps for several of the players who stood out.

“We’re working closely with our coaching staff to evaluate which players have earned a closer look as we begin shaping next year’s roster.” said Meyers.

As the 2022 Buckland Cup Champions, the Panthers continue to build on their legacy as one of the OJHL’s most respected and development-focused organizations. Prospect Camp remains a cornerstone of that commitment — offering players a real opportunity to earn their place in the lineup and take the next step in their hockey journey.
