Game 2 saw the Panthers back home to take on the Stouffville Spirit minus two regular defensemen who were injured the night before. Jake Mallory opened the scoring on the PP, stuffing the puck in the net from a goalmouth scramble for his 3rd of the playoffs. Marco Costante made it 2-0 six minutes later when he drifted from the blue line into the slot to fire it into the net.
Charlie Key got the only goal of the second period following a goalmouth scramble where bodies were flying everywhere. The puck came to Marco Costante, who passed it to Key, and he calmly moved it to his backhand and found the open net to make it 3-0.
Tyler Bruce added his first goal of the playoffs for good measure early in the third to give the Panthers a comfortable 4-0 lead and that’s how it would end. Kudos to Kyle Secko who managed to play in this game after being helped off the ice the night before following a check from behind.
Anthony Sciere had another terrific game in net for Pickering, making 27 saves for his second shutout of the playoffs. The Panthers are playing excellent defensive hockey, allowing only 7 goals in 6 playoff games. Stouffville has been held to one PP goal in two games played.
Game 3 of the series is back in Pickering, Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
