Pickering took on the Cobourg Cougars Monday night and led all game until the final two minutes. The Cougars pulled the goalie with just over a minute remaining and tied it up with the extra attacker. They then got the winner 26 seconds later to dash the Panthers’ hopes of two points.
Not much happened in the first period, as both teams struggled to find their game. Kailen Chen got Pickering on the board at the 17-minute mark when he broke down the wing on a two-on-one rush and caught the goalie off guard with a quick shot through the five-hole.
Cobourg tied it up early in the third period on a power play, but Joseph Cadorin converted a breakaway shortly after to put the Panthers up 2-1. The score remained unchanged until the Cougars scored two quick goals late in the third, securing the 3-2 victory.
It was a tough loss for the Cats, as they were hoping to move closer to 7th place in the standings. They will try to bounce back in their next game at home against the Buffalo Jr Sabres on Friday, January 24, at 7:30 PM.
