NORTH YORK, ON – The North York Rangers hosted the Panthers in an afternoon matchup, and Pickering came away with a 3-2 shootout victory and its first win of the young season.
North York took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission, with Hayden Shaw getting the lone Panthers goal unassisted. Travis Fortney tied the game in the second period with his first OJHL goal, assisted by Bruce and Barkic, and it remained that way through regulation.
Overtime solved nothing, sending the game to a shootout. Ethan Toms scored the only goal of the shootout, while Jacob Gibbons turned aside all three North York shooters to secure the win.
Gibbons made 26 saves to earn his first victory of the season.
Pickering’s next home game is Friday night, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. against the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.
