The Haliburton County Huskies have a number of ex-OHL players on their roster, and they used that experience and size to their advantage, handing the Pickering Panthers a 4-1 loss. The Panthers jumped to an early lead, scoring a power play goal on a great pass across the crease from Zennon Edwards to Owen Dunning, who potted his team-leading 14th marker, with Drew McLennan also earning an assist. Haliburton responded a little over a minute later and then added two more before the first period ended. That was all the scoring until the Huskies added an empty-netter when Pickering pulled the goalie with three minutes remaining.
Ian Michelone made 27 saves in net. Pickering played well in this one, especially in the third, when they controlled the play for much of the period, but they were unable to close the gap to make it a one-goal game. It doesn’t get easier for the Cats, as they host the conference-leading Trenton Golden Hawks on Sunday night, December 1st, at 7:30 pm.
